Hello, I have problem about noise?

My HARDDISK (IBM 18GB). AND that (250W PowerSupply)

Now that noise is very clear. I check that computer <-> 200CM area to listen,

I can very clear that noise ?

But In that tower? I can't confirm what (HDD or Power) is noise target.

Can you tell me some hints to confirm it ? and

    (A) if confirm HDD noise , is 90% died? But Windows scandisk check no any bad-sector!

    (B) if confirm POWER noise, maybe died? But I can success turn on computer! but maybe pwer supply is non-stable ?

    Please!

What sort of noise - humming or clicking? If it is clicking more likely to come from the hard drive.

Humming may not only be from the power supply, it could be noisy cooling fan bearings either on the CPU or case fan - if you have one.

You can check out the hard drive somewhat better by using the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software ......

    Right, is (humming) sound.

I try open that power supply and clean that dirt (from that FAN and bottom),

that sound is 50% loss. but again I can clear that nosie!

I try check that harddisk. no problem. is good life.!

that answer is: nosie target is "power supply? "

Remarks: I again clear that CPU Fans . And AGP Fans. that dirt all remove.

and : If that HARDDISK used over 7 years, is 100% good life ? no bad-sector?
is yes, that harddisk is very GOOD qty !?

If you have cleaned out those parts of the Power Supply Unit that you can - not advisable to open up the PSU case unless you have a knowledge of electricals, there is nothing else that you can do.

Cannot say exactly where the noise is coming from - maybe dry bearings on the fan if the PSU is as old as the hard drive (doing well :)) or may just be an electrical hum which all transformers tend to make. Not much more you can do about it, except be prepared for it to fail - sometime.
