I have a WD Blue 1TB hard drive that I used for backup. It has been out of the system for some time. I no longer need the backup and want to install it for data use. When I tried to format the drive, it formats to 223 gig instead of the 1tb. In the fI'm using XP Pro with all the updates. All is NTFS. In the format box it lists capacity as 223gig. I have a big job to do and it can only be done on this old machine. I mostly use my Win10 machine for all other. Any suggestions as how to get this thing running?

    Any help here:

Unfortunately there is no sound track but I think it gives you the procedure to follow.
Are you Formatting on your W10 comp or your XP?
Formatting that size drive may take over an hour.

Hate to say this, but this didn't work. I have tried many times. I have tried formatting many times with and without disk management and it still come out to only 203 MB. Tried getting rid of any partitions, but it doesn't seem to have any other than primary. I used management tools many years ago and had no problem getting the job done. This one has me stumped. I have been working on my win10 machine - I try the xp and see if I do any better. Will let you know.
I remember what used to on that disk. It was a clone of my original C drive and everything on it. I don't need that any more.

The links you set did not work as I didn't have the same set of buttons to click on as they did. Trying a few other things didn't work either. I have it connected to my XP machine, and since nothing else seemed to help, I disconnected my other drives, and "uninstalled" the bad one. I re-booted and it came up reading full value. I am now formatting the drive and it looks good so far. If anything changes, I'll be back. Thanks for all the help.

I just now got a message from WD. They referred me to this link. Since I now have a fully functional drive again, I don't need it. You may want to keep it for further reference. Thanks again for the help.

Funny, the links still work from my location as they are in my Post #5.
This is a warning on the WD link I posted. You have obviously found that it works!;)
