I have added a new hard drive of 160GB and installed windows XP Pro but I am only seeing 127.99GB with 25.39GB in unallocated space.

When I installed XP I completed a format during the install (not quick) so I would have thought that it would have formatted the whole disk.

How do I get that 25.39GB back into the main partition without creating a new partition as I want to keep the drive as one partition.

XP (pre SP1) can not handle drive sizes above ~134 GB. If you have installed XP using a XP-RTM CD, then that's the problem.

You can SLIPSTREAM SP2 into the XP-RTM CD and the problem will be solved but you will have to reinstall.

Didn’t the Original XP cd install environment not suffer from the 137gig limitation? It may be Paul that simply fixing the problem in your current install will reveal the rest of the partition. Even if it comes back as a separate 25gig partition you could merge it with the current XP partition.

The problem can be fixed either by installing a Service Pack, or with a reg fix or with this little app.

However I'm with Christer on the Slipstreaming. Gives a cleaner install than adding SP2 afterwards.

Thank you for the replies and the direction to the brilliant tutorial on making a Slipstream installation CD which I managed to produce (on 2nd attempt).

Started a new install and deleted existing partions including the main one and installed ok, and reconised my 160GB hard drive, so all up and working.

    Thanks
    Paul
