I have an older Seagate 3.2G HD and recently when I was adding some software I came up with an error (don't remember what is was and in a way it ain't important). It sent me to scandisk and when it was doing the surface scan it showed that the 4th sector is bad and scandisk couldn't repair it. I remember having a Quantum HD a few years ago and had a similar problem and they had a Zero Fill utility that worked. Of course it won't work on a non-Quatum HD (I tried it for "Ya never know "). The utility was made by Ontrack, and I went to their Webb and couldn't find anything that seemed similar to Zero Fill. So, does anybody have any idea what I can do to repair this?? Or is it junk?? Later. Pepse.

Have you been to Seagate's site to look for the same or a similar utility?

Well, yes I did go to Seagate's webby a few days before I posted this situation. I downloaded their latest version (1.04.03) and ran it. After it ran its course I wasa instructed to send the HD in for repair. So the reason I posted for help was because I was hoping to get directed to a web that had something like Quantum's ZeroFill utility. Well anyway I was looking thru my floppies and noticed I had an older copy of Seagate's Disk Manager (V 9.51) and I accidently grabbed that older version and put it in the computer and ran it (thinking it was the newer version I was planning to look and see if maybe there was some other stuff I might have missed). Well I was a bit surprised to see that it had "Low Level Format" and "ZeroFill ". That's when I realized I had the older floppy in. Well needless to say I ZeroFilled the HD, Low level formatted it(just because), Fdisked it, reformatted the drive and ran scandisk and there are no errors. So if any body out there has an older version of Seagate's Diskwizard hang on to it. I plan to check out Quantum's site and see if there newest HD repair tool still has ZeroFill. The Quantum floppy is about 3 to 4 years old and the older Seagate one is about 2 years old. So, anyway, I accidently solved my dilema. Later. Pepse.
