My problem is this.. I had a hard drive issue.. Windows disk fix had me delete registry files. I finally replaced the hard drive. Now I would like to recover my picture files from the old drive. I installed it as an external drive but can't open due to the registry problem. Windows asks me to reformat... But won't this erase the files totally? Any advise on how to recover the files would be greatly appreaciated

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

The registry isn't in use when the drive is in an external case...Unless you boot off of it.

If the drive is an IDE, make sure the jumper pin on the back of the drive is set to master.
