My PC is running XP Pro SP2. It doesn't boot up after RAM checking. Last time I put an original XP CD-ROM and the hard drive was repaired automatically. This time this trick doesn't work anymore.

    1. Any suggestion?

    2. I don't want to use mirroring or RAID-5 for this desktop PC. Can XP Pro SP2 do a system backup?

Is the drive recognised in BIOS?

In view of the past history of this drive it may have failed - I suggest you download the diagnostic software from the drive manufacturer's web site and check out the drive ....

    ExcelStore ....

    Hitachi .....

    Samsung ....

In XP Pro you can use Automated System Recovery to create an image of the main drive - but as I recall it backs up only to another physical drive and requires a floppy drive too. A better option is to use Drive Imaging software such as Acronis.
