    I have a PIII, 500Mhz, 128Ram and just installed Win98 second edition.

My problem is that there are times (not always) that my computer is freezing for a few seconds and then it continue working properly. it doesn't matter whether I am in word or in excel, or play a song or even not using it (on the desktop only).

I noticed that when this happens the hard drisk light will be flashing, therefore I thought that this could be a hard disk problem. Is this a symptom that shows me that the hard disk should be replaced or is there any bios setting which maybe could solve me the problem.

However, as regards software installed on my system, apart from Office 2000, I only have installed Winzip, Musicmatch & Prassi

    Thanks for your help!

    For starters.

I do not know if Office 2000 has it or not. But if it does and is loading FindFast ( or Fastfind ) that will cause the problem. That is supposed to speeds thing up. But I have news for you. It does everything but that.

Check that the Virual Memory ( swap ) file has plenty of room to work.

Also the swap file seems to be better when set to at least a minimum size and put on a partition other then C:
