    HI,

So far very happy with Vista. I did have some problems after the install, with the nVidia graphics driver, and the monitor driver, but these were easily sorted. All in all, an easier install than XP was, even both my printers were found and the drivers installed with no help.

I have already found various helper programs for Vista and am trying them out. To anybody running Live One Care I would recommend Vista Firewall Control from Sphinx-soft(free!), which gives you absolute control of web access for all the processes,(such as WMP). Every time a prog asks for access you are given the choice of allowing full web access, incoming only, outgoing only, or of course, no access at all. Another I really like is Vista Start Menu from ordinarysoft.com(free), which can be tied to the Vista start button, and gives direct access to all the progs, Your Computer, Control Panel etc., with one click. I am also trying Vista Manager which is like a swiss Army knife, combining some of the functions of tools like Registry Mechanic, Everest, etc.. Unfortunately it costs $40, so the jury is still out, even though it took me months (years?) to find out how to do all the things in XP that I can now do in Vista.

I already feel in more control of Vista than I did of XP, but there is one continual annoyance. If I don't stop the AUC every time I try to start Photoshop I get the 'An unidentified program wants access to your computer' message, and I have to click 'Allow' to get it to start. I don't want to keep AUC switched off so I hope that MS can bring out a fix to let it remember allowed programs.

Hi Roger, like the Vista Firewll Control as well. As of now, I'm not looking to a 3rd party Firewall.

And thanks for the other add-on references, will try them.

    Regards - Charles
