Everytime I boot up windows xp my computer hangs for about 30 seconds after every program is loaded (startup). After 30 seconds i hear a sound which is similar to the sound when a download is complete (by default anyway) and windows is ready to rock.

I've tried to monitor the processes at startup to see what's disturbing the system but I can't figure it out. I've cleaned my computer from spyware and I have the latest virus definitions.

Throughout the "hang period" my norton antivirus is disabled and it gets enabled at the same time the hang is "over ". I've tried to uninstall NAV and reinstall but it seems like it's something else.

    anyone?

Run msconfig and start removing programs from the startup group. When the system startups normally, start putting stuff back in. When it slows down again, you know what program has the problem.

    thanks for the reply but...

It seems like no programs in the "startup tab" affected the problem. I checked again at the processes windows starts during startup thorugh the task manager and one of these four processes seem to cause the problem (because they were initiated at the end of the hang, if you know what I mean):

    SBserv.exe
    nvsvc.exe
    navapsvc.exe
    inetinfo.exe

    I run on adsl dialup

    any help?
