hang up XP

my XP program (XP -pro) completley hangs up solid often during ;
a) installing a new program to my computer,
b) during downloading what ever what,
c) by visithing a web page or program,

there are no signs that the comp. says there is an error.
the XP program is brand new installed . I am a new beginner and not a wizzard in computer programs , is there a simple solution ? can someone advice? thank you Geertjan.

 

I had the same problem untill i installed the video drivers that XP liked........and it wasn't the latest greatest drivers for the card either, so figure.

check your device manager to see if there is any conflicting hardware. run an error check through also.
