Hi, I just bought a new PC, windows xp, media centre. The graphics card that came with it is an Nvidia GEforce 6800 which has digital capability. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 181T monitor which I want to hook up digitally. So far, I have everything plugged in right but the monitor is still displaying in analogue mode. I have phoned Dell and Samsung, no-one seems to be able to help me. I was told to find out if my graphics card is outputting analogue or digital but the guy couldn't tell me how to do that. Anyone have any ideas? Would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing you should have to do is connect using a DVI cable.

You can click the Source button of the monitor, which will re-check the input used.

I'm still not sure if it is working on analogue or digital tho. There is a menu on the monitor which says under Display Mode, that it is Analog. However, on my display settings on the computer, my monitor is listed as being digital. I am pretty confused.

On My Samsung SyncMaster 930BF there's a separate button (left of "Auto "). When I press it, is checks and will show "Analog" > "Digital" > "Digital ", meaning the monitor is running in Digital mode.

The OSD also has an "Info" screen, which sows:

    Digital
    63.8kHz 60Hz PP
    1280x1024

On mine, left of auto, there are two small lights, A + B, A is lit, B is not. On the OSD Info screen, it reads :

    64.0khz 60Hz PP
    1280x1024
    Analog

I assume you are using a DVI cable?

I don't know anything else that would be needed to run digital.

I have been messing around with the display settings and something is happening, but it aint working right:mad: On display settings I have 1. Syncmaster (Analogue) 2. SyncMaster (Digital). Is it seeing two monitors? If I choose the digital one and click use this as my main monitor, (on pushing exit on the monitor, B light is now lit), my desktop will now not work. At least I have got as far as it seeing the digital, but something is still not right. Any other thoughts?

You only should have the DVI cable connected, not both.

I have downloaded and checked the 181T manual and it actually says to connect both cables ...... ...... I "never" read the manual ...... ...... and I would only connect one or the other. Try disconnecting the VGA (blue) cable and see what happens.

Graphics cards with two outputs, one DVI and one VGA, often come with an DVI-to-VGA adapter which enables the connection of a second monitor to the same graphics card (if both monitors are VGA).

When I disconnect the blue cable (vga) screen won't work at all, just says "no signal ".

I would but the last time I phoned Dell I was left hanging on the phone for over half an hour until eventually I got put through to some guy in India, who was supposed to be technical support. I have no idea how some of these guys get jobs, I think I know more about computers myself. He went from unplug this to plug this in. I was on my knees for most of the time. In the end I was so mad, I put down the phone. Then he rings me back, I refused to answer the phone, so he leaves a message to the effect of try unplugging this and plugging this and that, same ole stuff again. Needless to say, I really don't want to go down that road again. I think I will continue to fiddle around with the settings myself and see if I can get anywhere. If I do, I will post back. In the meantime, thanks for your replies and interest. Much appreciated.

Well I am getting somewhere at last.:D

I went into device manager and looked under monitors, there were 4 listed, two defaults, one samsung analog and one samsung digital. I disabled all but the digital one.

Now I am running digital:) All seems to be working fine now except for when I reboot I get a "error loading CTMBHA.DLL" message. I can click it away and all works fine but wonder what it means:confused:
