I have WinXP Home, w/SP2 running. My graphics card is an Nvidia 6600 GT
w/128 meg mem on board the card. I also have "coolbits" installed.
    Graphics version = nVidia 71.84

The Optimal frequency settings are (overclocked to):
    3d: Core Clock = 560 MHz, Memory Clock = 1.02 GHz
    2D: Core Clock = 300 MHz, Memory Clock - 1.02 GHz
    (No problem there, just info)

Problem: The Max AGP Rate =
    GPU = 8X, Chipset = 8X, OS = 2X, Optimal = 8X

Why is the OS fixed at 2X and is there a way to change it?
Is the OS dragging down the graphics card?
Also, I am unable to turn off Fast Writes and/or Sideband Addressing - ??

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Hi Clif,

I'm not sure where you are reading that information, but the OS 2X may only relate to the fact that as an operating system Windows only needs to run the graphics at 2X. Applications/programs run under Windows will utilize the higher graphics if they need to.
So (not sure if you can start a sentence with "so" :) ), if a program like a game requires graphics to be run at 8X it will utilize the extra capacity.

If you start running programs that require intensive graphics and it goes like a slug, then I would worry. Otherwise, what you are seeing is only what is being reported.

mmmm...when was WinXP released, 2000? What was the current graphics level in those days? (Maybe 4X at most).

    Matt

    Hi Mattman,
    thanks for the info.
I got that reading from the Display properties>settings>advanced> AGP
settings under the graphics card name. Guess its only visable when the coolbits
    mod has been applied.

No problems with graphics intensive games ((Strike Fighters, Wings over
Vietnam). They work very good at 50/60 FPS.
Just didnt know that winxp was at 2x.... Thanks for clearing it up for me.

    clif

BTW: English was my worst subject in school :)
