:) Hi there, most likely your computers registry has been buggered up by an EXE. program that you downloaded somewhere or received in an email.
Save all your important files after scanning them with Nortan's anti virus full system scan down to a removable disk.
Next format your computer completely properly reinstalling all cards and their drivers.
Next 1 by 1 install scanner, printer, camera etc. restart after each install.
REMEBER! To install the dial up modem if you use one before you install any USB appliances, the USB takes up the Com 1 and Com 2 slots that your dial up moden needs.
GET! Your internet provider to help you reinstall all their strings and info for your DNS and TCIP settings.
When first going ONLINE do a repeated virus update from Nortan's till your updates are all installed.
Next Reinstall all your files BUT... REMEMBER when your reinstall Windows XP format the disks with Fat32 and not NTFS.
WHAT! You ask why not NTFS well...once you format a disk with NTFS you will experience serious problems operating anything on the NTFS formated disk. Fat32 is readable where NTFS is not by many none adjusted programes.
You should learn about Fat32 & NTFS differences it will great learning material and you will understand so much more about your computer.
If you want 100% good installation of windows xp then do a clean installation with xp.
Print what you are reading, it will help you!
Doing a clean installation requires the following: when your computer starts up constantly press again and again the DELETE button till you access your BIOS, then make your FIRST BOOT UP the CD Rom and not the FLOPPY disk.
Next restart your computer and install your Window's XP disk...at some point the XP will ask you to install the other window's disk be it "95, "98, ME, just so XP can verify your eligability...i take it your XP in an upgrade? This is how i have done it 15 times and it works great for me and my buddies.
Oh yes don't forget to replace the XP disk for the rest of the installation and go back to your BIOS and change back first BOOT UP to FLOOPY Disk.
If you have any further questions or did not understand something email me and i will go into better detail...step by step.
With xp at installation you will have the option to decide what your disk size will be for C,D,E,F, etc.

 Wow, I dont think I would recommend an immediate format and reload as you described Malinoix especially since this person shows their experience as beginner......

Bradley, I would boot XP into safe mode and check for duplicate display devices. If they exist I would remove them both and let XP redetect it. If you get a prompt for a driver I would then install your latest nvidia driver you downloaded. Let us know if you need more specific instructions.
