Came across this graphical interface for editing the Vista Boot menu, BCEDIT.exe ....
Appears to work OK with Vista RC1 which I have just installed as dual boot to XP Pro and permits the use of BCEDIT.exe from within XP

Used it to set XP as the default OS (Vista sets itself as default) and adjust the boot time out.

    Hi Pete,
Just a question - I presume that you had XP Pro on the 'C' partition, so when Vista installed itself and took over 'C' what letter was given to XP?

I have been running Vista on my back-up machine up to now but with the ability to alter the BCD I will install the RC1 on my main machine. Thanks.

When you boot into Vista it is "C ". When you next boot in XP, it will be "C" :)

Do not use the utility to change the shown drive letters, whether run in XP or Vista.

Vista will always be "C" when it is running.

    Yet another question!

I am still waiting for my copy of RC1. How will installing it in its own partition affect the usage of True Image?
True Image has saved my bacon several times now, but how will it see XP and Vista if both show up as 'C' when I need to restore an image of XP?
Has anybody tried it, or even just looked at it?

    Roger:confused:

For a dual boot XP + Vista, the drives will be enumerated (when you attempt an emergency CD recovery) just as they were under XP. So do the backup image under XP.

If you only have Vista, do the backup and restore obviously under the drive definitions enumerated by Vista.

If you are going to do a recovery from within XP or Vista, do the restore from the same OS selection you made when the backup image was created.

(I like True Image a lot as well).
