My GPU driver should be updated. When I open the GPU Properties, I have choices. Should I delete the existing drivers first, prior to installing the update drivers? I wonder if I would be left without an affective GPU and a black screen?

I have attempted to update to the latest drivers at the NVIDIA site; however, the installation does not complete. Their support is an experiment in frugality.

If you haven't changed the card (which appears to be the case) then upgrading with old drivers in place shouldn't be a problem.

However, even if you uninstall the old drivers you won't be left with a black screen, all cards (even now) are compatible with standard (S)VGA drivers though the colour depth and resolution will be painful to use until you install proper drivers.

The card was changed; both are/were NVIDIA. Thank you for the prompt reply. Will the rollback work if the new drivers do not load?

If the card was changed for a different model (even if the same chipset) then uninstall previous drivers then reinstall the new drivers, you may have to reboot a couple of times but eventually things will sort themselves out.

BTW: It would help if in future you mention such changes in your initial post ;)

Thank you for the advice; however, it is difficult to know what to ask when one is already confused enough to ask a question. The card was changed a few years ago and it was not apparent to me to provide that fact.

I was confident that someone would help with an easy and straight forward question.

BTW: Thank you for the help.

    OK, just to clarify...

If you haven't changed the card recently (a few years ago isn't recent) then my reply in #2 stands.

I do not disagree. I proceeded as one should, following instructions and rebooting, which I did, and all is well. Thank you.

Glad you got it sorted. Please mark your thread as 'Resolved'.

Why would anyone want to leave Bonnie Dundee  (don't answer that :p)
