I have two machines that I am swapping locations and wanted to have Machine A go to User B and machine B go to User A. I tried to change the computer name on Machine A to reflect that it is now user B's machine (and vise-versa). "Credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials" is the error message I am getting.

We'll I played around some and now I get the following on both machines: "System cannot log you on to this Domain because the System's computer account in it's Primary Domain is missing or the password for that account is incorrect ". Thus I cannot get into either machine.

Initially, I had removed the computers in the Active Directory hoping to help validate the name change, but it didn't work. Machine A then decided it wanted to display the above message. I added both back computers to the Active Directory and Reset as well. Machine B worked ok, but not Machine A. Eventually B quit working as well.

I've also removed and added back to the DNS on our Windows 2000 Server, but nothing worked.

All I wanted to do was changed the computer names on these machines and now I've gone and done it.

The only think I can think of at this moment is rebooting the server, which I can do late tonight.

    Any thoughts on this?

Can you logon locally (with a local admin account) to these machines to remove them from the domain and rejoin? See Q160324

I had beat you to it by a few minutes. I tried logging in on the local machine as Administrator, set up myself as a user and it rebooted just fine.

At least you had an answer for me in case I wasn't able to figure it out.
