This is a longshot but am posting here in case someone has a possible solution. I have a gmail account and have used a profile picture. I updated it but the picture was awful so I replaced it. The one that is awful is still lurking somewhere in code, cache, apps no where to be found to be deleted. I have gone to album archive and deleted old profile pictures. I deleted my own contact info with the old picture and created a new contact. I searched google help and 81+ people had the same issue. two had results eliminating their own contact.

so...if there is any info that would help you help resolve this please let me know. I'm close to calling google. I would change my email but not up for that just yet. and even then there is no guarantee with using another gmail account it wouldn't appear.

These are various places I have checked. I did old profile pictures but this last one is haunting. Of course it's the one that is the worst picture. Thanks for any and all ideas!

I found the solution. One of the links above said to delete your google contact which I did to no avail. however I use outlook and I found the picture in my outlook (I did not put it there) contact. deleted/changed that and it SEEMS to be fixed. thank you for having this forum still going strong after many years. I am a lifetime member and even though I don't post frequently it is still my go to place for troubleshooting and windows info. thank you!

I thought I had found the solution. doing what I indicated above removed the picture from messages on desktop but not so fast sherlock...still on my cell. RATS!

    Update
ok I also cleared cache on cell phone and found the picture in my Microsoft account and changed it there. where else it could be lurking is in question.

    Barb S,
I admire your tenacity. Even though none of us jumped in with any suggestions, you kept plugging, found the/an answer, and kept us informed all along. Backgrounds and account photos have always been a mystery to me so I learned a bit following along with you. Thanks for continuing to post.
