I currently use IE, Firefox, and Chrome on a rotating basis - I like to stay current on them. I also use, and teach a Beginning level class on Google's Picasa. I am beginning to pick up an undercurrent that Google is moving towards forcing us to use something called Google+ or Google Chrome+ which would replace their current Web albums.

What little I have been able to find through "Googling" leads me to believe that this will simply be another social media application to instantaneously share everything with everyone - not what I care to do. If that's the case, then perhaps I will dump Google Chrome as a browser and go back to Adobe elements for my photo application. Am I missing something here?

No, you're not missing anything. Google's goal is to know everything about everybody. So, as soon as you open Google Chrome, they want you to log in so that they now know who you are and what you're up to. (Knowledge=Power).

Google+ is google's social networking service, similar to Facebook. Google services are linked.

Picasa is being phased out/integrated with google+.
