    Hi all,

Am having a harrowing time with my friends computer trying to fix the wireless connection. Every time the computer goes online it breaks the WLAN connection on the router.

The router is from German Telekom: Speedport W 921V and the computer is a desktop using a Digitus USB which uses Realtek 9121 driver (I have ensured it is the latest and compatible with with win 7). It also breaks on Windows 8.

It worked fine for a couple of months and then after a virus infection it's just not working.

The computer came without any wireless gadget installed, so we bought the one mentioned above. It started acting up right from the beginning, but I eventually got it working.

I even went ahead and re-installed the whole system, along with the required drivers (it has a separate Gigabyte DVD), but the problem remains, just as before.

It sometimes goes on for a few minutes, but invariably breaks up and noticed yesterday when wire-connected, it also breaks the connection on the router!

Any ideas what the problem is and if it can be fixed?

    Regards,

    Rista

    Hello tallin,

Many thanks for your input. This announcement (W921V) was made last year, but they worked out a patch to secure the vulnerability. This would mean that the goons are fooling around with us making us believe the patch "did it ". See they also replaced the Router (unfortunately with same model) as the trouble with my friend's router started.

I am also using the same router and sometime back in December I had a few break ups and they informed me that there was some kind of "earthing" taking place and then sent someone to check it out and since then haven't had any such fall outs. I have a 50 MBit connection and my friend living only a couple of a streets across has 16 MBit. Perhaps speed also plays a role.

I have one other Router 7147 from AVM which is really good, but only good up to 25 MBits, so for him it should suffice. I use the higher speed only because of TV. I will test it out with the other one see if we are in luck. Then Telekom will have to pay us back. My friend is a lawyer incidentally!

I'll definitely let you know of my inferences.

    Regards,

    Rista

    Hello tallin,

Please forgive me for this late reply.

Yes, the WLAN software in the Speedport W 921V is faulty.
The German Telekom was adamant to accept and eat crow, till I connected my friends computer with my FritzBox 7170 and suddenly everything was working and gave a full strength signal which was always around 60% with the Speedport.
The Telekom also sheeply accepted the router back and paid back half the monthly charges (which they adjusted in the next bill.
However, to know more about the problem, since I'm also using the same router I dug a little deeper and found out that if you configure or set the 2.4 GHz SSID to not automatic, but a fixed channel, then the problem may appear only rarely. In addition there was a new update 1.21.000 which also addressed the same problem and seems to have belayed the screaming customers.
So, thank you again for the valuable background information and you may mark the post as resolved.

Warm regards (it is freezing cold around these parts - 3.5° C this morning!)

    Rista :)

Lovely weather here, 22 C today and sunny with no wind - however winter is around the corner sadly but our lowest temp is mostly around 2 C, not for long and no snow.

    best regards,
