I am running IE Ver. 11.0.9600.17416 updated ver. 11.0.14, on Win 8.1.

When I open a page on a site like ESPN I get a blank ghost page, with a circle in the middle, flash on the screen then slowly melt away. I takes about five seconds then everything works fine until I go to the next page and it happens again.

I went to Flash Player and did all the trouble shooting checks, and everything is as it should be.

Does anyone know what is going on? TIA

    Dennis

Next time it happens, do this:

    1. press the Print Scrn key.
    2. open Microsoft Paint.
    3. click on Paste.
    4. save the image.
    5. attach the image in your next post here.

Thanks Tony, Will do -- and thanks for reminding me how Printscreen works and that I have Paint. As usual, when you want a problem to occur, now it won't. As soon as it comes back I'll catch and post it.

Here is a Printscreen image of the ghost page flashing over the screen.

Not certain it's a problem with Flash Player, but you can check Windows Update for recent updates to Flash Player for IE. There were 2 in the last 2 weeks.

The transparency overlay is probably a javascript problem. One possible thing to try is to delete all Temp Internet Files in IE:
Internet Options > General tab > Browsing history section > Delete button.

Does this occur at other sites too or just espn?

Thanks Tony, I'll get to work on this right away and let you know if any of your suggestions makes any difference. I do think the problem started right after a Java update. It is mainly, and most noticeable on ESPN, which is loaded with all kinds of junk, and made even worse by the fact that I live in Denmark so they switch all the ads to Danish. Thanks again, Dennis

OK TonyT, I cleaned out the Browsing history section, including cookies, etc. then went to ESPN and spent almost 20 minutes running through it and couldn't get the flash overlay once, so, hopefully that was he problem. If it remains solid through tomorrow mornings usage, I'll mark this thread resolved. Some other problems, like my mouse wheel not working for scrolling after some pages opened also disappeared.

By the way, on my Windows 8.1, I couldn't locate the Windows Update or its history. Can you guide me to it? TIA

    Dennis

Search for Windows Update or go to Tools in IE and it is there also.

Thanks Mr. Bill, but I couldn't find the normal "Search" in Win. 8.1 and help didn't help, and it wasn't in "Tools" in IE Ver. 11.0.14, but when I looked in the "Safety" drop-down, there it was right at the bottom.
Thanks for getting me looking in IE again.

All you need to do is go to the App screen (Metro) and start typing - the Search box will appear.

or go directly to Windows Update ....

Control Panel > Windows Update (view by Large Icons)

OK Pete, That was a breeze. I'm printing out your post so I remember how to find Search next time and that Update is in Safety and not Tools. Thanks,

    Dennis
