I just bought Norton Ghost 9.0. I backed my System drive C:\ (Win XP Pro SP2).

Ghost did it all in Windows. Didnt do my backup in DOS

Is this how it is supposed to be?

Yes, ghost 9 can do this, earlier versions of ghost did not.

I also just got Norton Ghost 9.

You should be all set with the image. There is a option to auto check the image as soon as it's made which should give you a good indacation as to the success of the backup.

What I find strange is with Ghost 9, unless I'm missing something, You cannot boot from the cd and create a image. The only option I saw is to create the image in windows.

Also .. I've tried True Image and Ghost 9 and the main differances I see are:

Ghost 9 will auto check the image after creation but will not let you create a image by booting from the cd.

True Image will let you create a image by booting from the CD. And True Image is faster than Norton Ghost. But True image will not auto check the image after creation.(which is a nice feature and time saver)

I'll be reading the manual in the next few day's but correct me if I'm mistaken.

    Good Luck
