I hope that this is the correct Forum. I had posted this under the Windows XP forum, but I haven't had any luck at all getting the problem solved and it seems to me that the problem should fall under InternetExplorer and OutLookExpress forum so here goes.

Whenever I shut my system all the way down and I have to reboot, I simply click on my name, which takes me over to my desktop where all of my iCons are.

The problem is when I click on my IE or Outlook Express icon, it takes forever to get on the Internet or to get into my email. This problem just started around 2-3 weeks ago and for some reason, I can't find out why it is this way nor can I find out a way to fix it.

If I am on the net and decide that I am finished for awhile, I always click on closeout button, Start button, Log Off, Log Off, Turn Computer off, and then click on Shut System Down, then when I return maybe the next day, I will have to turn power back on by pushing the power button on the front of my PC, click on my name, whatever iCon I want and it takes up to 3-4 minutes before I can get into my email or on the net. If I click on IE iCon,it will flip over and make me think that it's going to click over to the _net the right way, only to have a solid white screen to come up and then have to wait around 3 minutes and then my MSN Home Page will come up.

It works the same way on my email. I click on Outlook Express iCon and it flips the page and then I have to wait a few minutes before it will come up.

After I open my email up or get on the net, I can automatically close it out without shutting the system down and everything works perfectly. If I am waiting on the Inet to pull up, I can watch in the bottom left corner of the screen and it will take the few minutes before it ever says "Looking for Page ", "Opening Page ", and then "Done ". It takes these few minutes to get started opening the program.

I have been working at this problem for 3 atraight days without getting anywhere. I was also having a problem not being able to set my PC on "Stand-By" mode for short breaks, but I think it was in my settings, "I HOPE ". Whenever I would Log Off/System shut down/Stand-By, after a minute or two, the system would come back on to the screen where my name is posted to click on,before the desktop iCons.

Sometimes while my system is in the stand-by mode, a popping sound will come thru the speakers and sometimes this is when the system comes out of stand-by mode and the screen where our names are will come up.

A lightening storm had our power off about the time all of this started. I think that it had messed up some of my settings for System Stand-by and Hibernates. I have went back and re-set all of my settings, but still can't find out what the problem is with the system being so slow right after a reboot.

I have not had but a couple of people that gave me any info concerning this issue, but like I said, I might have had this posted in the wrong forum and not many people got to read it. The other Post that I started in the WindowsXP forum was "I Need Serious Help...Newt "

Please someone help me, I'm not that knowledgeable about computers, but I have the interest and I'm learning. I have cleaned out my Temp.I-net Files, all of my cookies, Disc scan, Defrag. and cleaned out Recycle Bin.

I only use my PC for browsing the net and that's about it. I am running a Compaq PC W/Cable High-Speed inernet thru Charter Pipeline, & Windows XP .

My brother was also hooking up and then un-hooking a wireless router so he could get I-net service across the street, but un-hooked it because it was not getting a good enough signal, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the problem that I have.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions that anyone can give me. I am open for all suggestions. I hate to have to restore my system.

Well I guess none knew what the problem was that I had with my PC. I just got thru doing a full system restore, because I ended up getting a bunch of stuff out of wack and I figured it would be easier to just go ahead and do a restore and don't worry about it.

Thanks for the help and suggestions that I did get. I have gotten a lot of helpful information off of this site. I'm sure glad to find this site, maybe now in the future with the help from some of you all, I won't have to do a system restore the next time.

    Thanks again !
