Just installed Netscape 7.0 and can't figure out what I did wrong in setting up my email and when I go to Mail & Newsgroup or the Help & Support Section when I click on either it blinks the section and disappears. Really confused?

    Welcome to the Forum, DWJ!

    Hi DWJ,

First thing that comes to mind, is that perhaps you are using a Theme other than Modern? If you are, then that is most likely your problem.

    Let us know...

Using a Theme other than Modern?

Thanks for your reply, but as to being theme other than Modern I'm really lost now. I have the disc for Netscape 7.0 and have installed and reinstalled it and the same thing happens when trying to open both the Mail and Help sections.

    Hi DWJ,

If you are installing directly from the CD, without making any changes or have not added a new theme, then disregard my post.

If I were you I would download the Netscape 7.01 Streamline Version of Netscape. If you are unable to access the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings, after a fresh install, and have done no configuration, then that might indicate a problem with the CD. Do you get an error, or just the disappearing window?

Do you have the SunJava Plugin installed? We have seen behavior similar to this before, and uninstalling/reinstalling the Java Plugin resolved the issue.

    Let us know,

    Ramona :D

just the disappearing window so I can't access either help or mail sections I mentioned before. SunJava Plugin is installed so I'll uninstall everything and download it again.
Is the streamline version safe to download and should I uninstall Netscape 7.0 and just install the streamline version?

    Hi DWJ,

Yes, the SillyDog701 Version is definitely safe, and I use it myself, as do many, many others.

Definitely uninstall 7.0 first, and these "Clean Install " guidelines may be useful.

Do your uninstalling through the Add/Remove applet:
    Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs

The most current Version of the SunJava Pluging is Version 1.4.1_01. This Version has been trouble free on my system.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. We're here to help!

I uninstalled my Netscape 7.0 and installed the Streamline version and still can't get the window for mail/newsgroups to open or the help and support section. Driving me crazy maybe things should be explained on a beginners level not intermediate. :)

How do I go about getting the new SUnJava plugin and downloading that, maybe that will solve my problem. Oh well, another day tomorrow!

    Hi DWJ,

Still no joy? The link for the SunJava Plugin, is in the above post:
    Version 1.4.1_01.

You stated that you had the SunJava Plugin installed, but I'm wondering if you were referring to the Plugin that is included with the browser, or did you download and install a plugin from the Sun site?

When you did the clean install, did you create a new Profile?

I just uninstalled the Netscape 7.0 and downloaded the Streamline you told me about. Did I make a new profile no, but I'm not sure about what your talking about there either. I must be led by the hand in many of these computer issues.

I also used the plugin that came with the brower so I should download the one your telling me about then, correct?

That's fine, and I will refer you to another guideline for Creating a New Profile.

I also used the plugin that came with the browser so I should download the one your telling me about then, correct?

Create the new Profile first, and let's see if that will correct the problem you're encountering.

After reading over the guideline for creating a new profile, please feel free to ask questions if it is not perfectly clear.
