    Hi

I have recently been given a genuine MS NT4 Workstation CD by a colleague who had it installed on his PC when he bought it years ago but upgraded to Windows 2000. He has since lost the certificate and CD box and cannot find the original product key.

Does anyone know where I can buy a key to use this software as I write control software and would like to make a multi boot system to enable me to test my software.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Strictly speaking he can't do that. He most probably bought a Windows 2000 upgrade, which requires him to keep ownership of his NT4 license.

You'd have to buy a license.

    Thanks for the reply.

What he did was to buy an OEM HDD which came with a new W2K disk and Licence.

So Would I have to go to Microsoft for a licence as resellers don't want to know.

Is the NT that you have also OEM ?

If so then this is non transferrable and non upgradable

I'm not actually sure that you can have OEM 2K purely on a HDD, I thought it had to be full system (or at least the component parts thereof)

MS probably wouldnt sell you a code anyway as you can no longer buy NT as its unsupported (you cant even buy 2K anymore, only XP and then use this as a backwards grant of license)

Of course if you were education then we could play Double Jeopardy where the scores can really change....:)
