I need a power supply for a Gateway Computer Mod. # ATXSTFOXN Select K7-950.
The Power supply is an ASTEC ATX 250 3505, I want to replace it with a 300 0r 350 watt capacity.
My question is, will a generic supply work in the Gateway?
I see by searching this board that Dell uses a Proprietary supply and wonder If I shold be concerned about my Gateway being that way. The one that is in the computer now is No good , it has a single two row pin, large plug, as opposed to the two single row pin plugs.
    Thanks! as usual.

    Moore,

Take a look here. Although this link shows the dell connector pinout it also shows the industry standard connector's pinouts and wire colors.

If you look at the connector on your current power supply and the pinouts and wire colors match up with the industry standard then you should be able to use a standard power supply in your PC.

If have a Gateway power supply running with a non gateway board in my house - never had a problem. Of course, things change, so can't say for certain whether yours is proprietary or not.

    Cheers,

    ICE

    Boy!!
That`s just what I need. the colors for a standard power supply match, as far as I checked, I`ll get it out and see for sure it`s identical all the way.
    I really appreciate the link.
    Thanks
    Moore
