My computer was working fine till last night when the above error (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered an error and has to shut down) started to appear and reappear periodically. I have to shut the computer down and reboot. I am using a DSL connection for the computer. I reveiwed this error on several BB's and have not found anything to help with the problem. I did a virus scan and an adaware/malware scan with no help. I do not have any drivers for my HP printer other than the one which Windows XP provides itself. I have not installed any new programs or drivers. Any suggestions to solve this would be appreciated.

I appreciate the link-but believe it or not I got a better list of relevant sites from Ask.com rather than Google.com. In any case, I do not have any HP drivers other than the one Windows XP itself supplies. The system has been fine for 3 years with the same printer so I doubt this is the problem. It suddenly started giving me this error last week--nothing was changed on the computer and no new programs were downloaded or installed. I will again update my files for XP from Microsoft and see if this helps.

If you click Click Here at the bottom of the message box, what information appears?

Any messages in your System or Application logs in Event Viewer?

To open Event Viewer, go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, click OK.

Check your Application and System logs for errors.

You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.
