I know this error message has done the rounds, but I've tried all kinds of rememdies to get rid of it, without success

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close "

It keeps shutting my internet down and I don't know what to do!!!

I really would appreciate some help

Hi, dalaner. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

Not knowing exactly what you have already tried might hinder people from helping. The more detailed information you can provide, the more likely someone will know/suggest a possible solution.

Did you make any hardware or software changes to your computer immediately before you started experiencing the crashes? If so, what were those changes?

Have you had the crashes occur often enough that you noticed any patterns? For example, do the Generic Host Process errors occur usually after you perform a specific task or do they just seem random?

Have you tried using System Restore to a date you know your system was working smoothly?

System Restore can be accesses as follows:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

My first guess of a course of action you can take that might help is as follows:

Please follow the instructions in this link.

I think you'll be using DebugWiz to analyze your
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp
files since it appears you are experiencing program crashes instead of system crashes that cause reboots.

Please keep us posted.

EDIT: You might already have a drwtsn32.log file located in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\
that has information about your crashes.

You might also have some useful information in
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

Hi Mailman,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query.

I don't notice myself doing any particular task when it shuts down. Sometimes it's a matter of 5 or so minutes and sometimes it's a couple of hours.

I won a version of Panda Security and it was installed on 5/6 August, but this trouble didn't start until 15 August. Can't think of anything else that's been changed.
I disconnected my HP laser printer - just in case!!

Things I've tried:
System restore to 5 days before the trouble started. No good.
Various cleaners like:
Ewido,
pcpoint
Registry fix
WindowsXP-KB894391...etc...

As well as my usual Adaware scan and Spybot search

dalaner
