I just bought a new monitor, an Acer P225HQL, but it doesn't come with W98 drivers. (That's not surprising; but what IS surprising is it doesn't come with drivers for anything before Vista. And yes, I've looked at the web site.)

Does anyone know of a generic driver for a 16:9 monitor? I'd even install one from a different manufacturer, although I'd probably have to force-install it manually. (Does anyone know how to do that?) Whatever works, at this point. Otherwise I'm stuck at 640 x 480 resolution.

    Regards,

    Jennifer

I got this out of a forum relating to the same problem, you should find this guide usefull in determining how to get the drivers. It was written 8 years ago, not easy to find much information for win98 these days.

Thank you, but the best I got was (unknown monitor) on (unknown device).

I'll have to open the case to see what's in there---although if it's part of the motherboard, I might not be able to determine it.

Download the free software on this link and it will give you the details you need. Please post the details of Display Adapters and your Motherboard.

Deleted what I posted. Didn't read things close enough I guess. OOPS! :)

How old is this computer. You're system details says it has Win7 and Linux on it too. Is this correct? If so, do they display correctly?

Works fine under Linux. W7 is on a different computer.

Did you try my suggestion in post 4?? that should give the details required to resolve this problem.

Have you looked inside the case and/or determined if you have a graphics card, or if it is on the MOBO. The make and model number of the MOBO should be written on the board.

If the cable for your monitor is connected to a seperate connection on the back of the PC in one of the horizontal slots then that is a graphics card. If there is no information written on the card you will need to look in device manger to get the details or use the software I gave the link for in post 4. If it is showing as Unknown device in Device Manager I suspect the driver is not installed, is there a yellow triangle next to it? Right click on the device and see under the general tab that it is listed as working correctly.

There is no easy way to resolve this without knowing the details for the graphics card or, if the graphics are on the MOBO knowing the details of your MOBO.

Please report back with your findings and check for the yellow triangle in Device Manager.

So, did you determine if you have a graphics card or it is onboard.

If you supply me with the details of the card and/or MOBO (as asked for) I may be able to give you further help, without that there is little more I can do.

In device manager, click on Monitor to open it up, then right click on the monitor and choose update drivers and let it go on line to see if it can find any.

As I see it, your looking for a Monitor driver for the following Monitor
    Acer P225HQL

If you do download the file for the supposed Vista+ and extract the contents, you will notice that the .inf file {Setup information file} contains the following
So why not try the following,
download the file for the Acer monitor P225HQL from the following link
    http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=1872
Save it directly to your C: folder
Then extract the contents within to your C: folder so you now have
    C:\Monitor_Acer_1.0_Vistax64Vistax86W7x86W7x64_A

    Right click on MyComputer>>Select Properties>>Device Manager>>
    Expand(+) on Monitors
Right click on the default monitor and select Properties
Open the "Driver" tab and select "Update Driver "
Select the Radio button to "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location.................. "
    Click NEXT>>Select "Have Disk ">>>BROWSE
Navigate to the folder that contains the driver information (.INF) file
In your case it should be C:\Monitor_Acer_1.0_Vistax64Vistax86W7x86W7x64_A
It should find the .inf file, in your case
    P225HQL.inf, choose OK

    See if that helps?
