This is what I'd like to know: I have an icon for my internet ISP on my desktop. However, I'd like to know how I can put a small one in my task bar.? I've tried the drag & drop but it didn't work. Any ideas please?

Course it should show up in the Task Bar when you launch the program...

You can drag it to your "quick launch" bar...

Getting it to go to the "Sys Tray" by the clock is a bit difficult.

Is it the Sys Tray you're asking about?

Yes, I may have been calling it by the wrong term. It should be there when I log on but it isn't. I just have the icon on desktop. Could you tell me how to get it to the Sys Tray?
    Thanks

    Normally, drag, and drop works.

I agree with you. It does on most things but on this one it sure doesn't. But thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

What exactly does that icon do, when doubleclicked? What shortcut is it to?

When double clicked it opens my internet server. But I wanted to place it in the SYS TRAY too. It is so much easier to access from there. Everything else I've needed to put there, goes with out a problem but no luck with this one.

Right click on your desktop ISP icon, click Copy.
    Open Windows Explorer, navigate to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
Right click on Quick Launch folder, and click Paste.

Thank you very much.I got it where I wanted it to go. I couldn't for some reason follow your exact route but ended up the same place with the right results. Appreciate it. I hate to quit on something and thanks to you, I didn't have to. Have a good night and God bless.

Thats certainly another way to do what Steve already suggested but me thinks he/she wants it running at startup and over by the clock in the system tray. Not knowing what the application is and whether there are options within the program to run on startup, I guess one could gamble and put a shortcut to the program in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Certainly worth a try.

    ;)

I'm glad, it worked for you :)
You must be on Vista, I guess...?

This will add a program as a startup, but not into Quick Launch

I know. Thats exactly what Steve also referenced. However, if one goes back and reads the thread, ristine34 was trying to get it in the System Tray, not on the Quick Launch Bar.
    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    broni,

Agreed - that's where it requires a little "reading between the lines" and interpretive "guess work ". Admittedly, based upon the dialogue, I'm not sure where the shortcut wound up. My gut would be more inclined to lean towards the Quick Launch Bar but who knows?

As you observed, my first post here was a way to add it to the startup menu for all users but I also couched my suggestion as a "gamble" because running a program at startup doesn't guarantee an icon is going to be placed in the System Tray.

You are oh so right - only ristine34 can solve this mystery for us.

    ;)
