While I have a high degree of suspicion about programs that open access to my computers I nonetheless see the attraction of using something like Amazon Cloud or Dropbox to share at least a limited number and type of files.

Can someone point me to a link or otherwise help me get my head around the pros and cons?

Next, I know some antivirus software does not play nice with competitors or varying types of security applications.

So how would Amazon Cloud or Dropbox interact with Malwarebytes or other software that is used for security purposes?

Again, if I'm in the wrong forum or need to look elsewhere, please provide guidance.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rick

I have a Dropbox account, too, but I have yet to set it up so the program can sync files for wondering if I'm being spied upon in Google-like fashion. I once used it in school as a means to store files from computers that had no USB capabilities, but Dropbox wasn't the program then, as it is now.

I did a little research, and I found a cloud storage site called MEGA (New Zealand based) that is offering 50Gb of encrypted storage for free. You might want to check them out since they seem committed to end-user privacy (according to their posted statement).

Personal, private items, such as tax returns, wills, birth certificates, mortgages, stocks, bonds, insurance documents, etc., should be stored in a Safe Deposit Box, never out on the 'net, ( "in the cloud ").

    Agreed.

I use TrueCrypt for sensitive files stored on my PC.

    Sounds like CIA terminology.

    TrueCrypt Plausible Deniability

TrueCrypt offers a hidden volume option, but I have never thought much about it until now.

We went with Dropbox and no financial or other critical personal information is stored there. Additionally, a physical backup is made each week to a CD the same as before.

Thanks to all for the feedback -
