    G'day everybody I'm koala17 from Australia. :)

I have always been perplexed about Microsoft and its software. why it works sometimes and not other times....you know crashing, freezing etc.
Can't say that I know a lot about PCs and software but I'm always keen to learn what makes it all tick properly. Do have a problem with one of my PCs and WinXP SP2 but will use the appropriate forum to deal with it.

anyway, will be watching and participating!
Cheers to all of you from western Australia

    G'day YOURSELF :D

What's a good start for a beginner? [What do they say...DON'T PANIC! :)] Don't be too afraid to make changes, BUT, be able to retrace your steps to back out. If you are not sure about something, do a search of the forums, although don't hesitate to ask if you are can't see a solution, there's probably a lot of people wondering about the same thing. Easy questions are most welcomed :D

    Have fun here.

    Matt

    Thanks Guys

Thanks guys for your warm welcome. I actually found the solution to my previous problem.....It was a faulty graphics card:mad: Its going ok now. Have a noisy fan on the main board but that should be easy enough to remedy.

Have also decided to get systems that don't work and play with them to enhance my learning.(and sometimes frustration!!) . Have one at the moment that is a quandary?? Its has a ASRock K7VM4 M/board. Its a stinker....wont let me enter the setup/bios and deactivates the USB ports (keyboard) etc so I can't move any further....amongst other things.

I shall keep playing. One question: is there a book available that explains basic computer building and the associated definitions and meanings of onscreen messages etc?

    Thanks for your feedback

    Greg (koala17):D

Hi from the otherside of the country

The Problem you have entering bios usually can be rectified by resetting the cmos, the board will have a jumper to do that; if not, remove the back up battery with power cord removed & hold the power key on for at least a minute or 2, reinstall battery & power on, it's worked for me on numerous occassions. :)
