    Hi,
I play alot of games on my machine...
The games like Diablo 2 and Sacred etc. start reacting painfully slow when the graphics are full of action and populated with enemies to fight ...
I searched and found a thread about this problem...
The answers were interesting but there were no step by step solutions offered,,,,

The thread is CLOSED so I could not post to ask for verification and instructions......

What is Memory Leak and how can I fix it???
What is Hibernation and how can I fix it????
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it to their satisfaction???

A memory leak is usually caused by the programmer who wrote the code (for the game or the graphics card driver in this case), and fixing it would require installing (patching) the game or upgrading the graphics card driver.

Hibernation is not something you need to "fix "... Read: Use Standby and Hibernate

It is possible to recovered lost/ "leaked" memory via a "memory manager" or "memory monitor" tool. There are freeware versions available. Try GOOGLING "memory managers" or "memory monitors ".

For more on "leaked memory ", here is something from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_leak.

Here is a site that lists some freeware and shareware memory managers: www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage/RAMpageTools.html.

It just so happens that I use "maxmem ", but I don't think I'm in a position to offer an opinion as to which one is the best.

Just for the heck of it, try running the windows task manager (in WinXP do CRTL-ALT-DEL to bring it up). Click on the "Performance" tab. Look at the "Physical Memory (K) ". If the amount of memory "Available" is low compared to the "Total ", you are probably running low on memory. Also look at the "PF Usage" and "Page File History" if they are high while you are running your games, that might be a sign of your "slowness ".

Maybe you just need more physical memory. Perhaps someone else on the BB can help you with how to go about adding more memory.

A final comment about memory managers (at least MY "maxmem" memory manager). When I tell it to run "aggressively ", that is, try to recover as much memory as possible, it really HOGS up the system while it is doing it (more than 30 seconds). My wife plays card games at www.pogo.com, and I seem to recall reading on their site once that they recommend turning off memory managers before you start to play one of their games.

Games are most dependent on graphics. If you have a modest graphics card and are trying to run the game at a reasonably high resolution, the graphics are going to be pushed quite hard. When Windows XP came out, I think most monitors would have been 15 ", now 19" are becoming widespread. On a 15" 800x600 is what I use, 17" or higher needs 1024x768 plus. The graphics card is doing more work at higher resolution.

Go to Options in the game and try reducing the settings, it may not look quite as good, but you should get increased performance.

In Control Panel -> Display -> Settings tab and try running at 16 bit colours, at least for running the game. I doubt you will notice much difference in the picture quality.

I notice the same thing happens in my games when there is a lot of activity onscreen (like a battle involving around 100 units  ). Everything is working at maximum capacity, so I need to either reduce the settings or let it slow during those periods.

Check the system requirements for the games, if your system is in the low range for any of the requirements that may be the reason. Look at the readme in the game's main folder.

I know (not to say that blakston6286 is using it) that the No-CD Loader for games like Diablo II and Sacred (as well as other games) do have/cause memory leaks. Also game Mods can also cause issues.
