game controller prob

I can't run the game control option from the control panel, it comes up 'run dll as an app has encountered prob...' I tried to reinstall it from the windows CD, but there doesn't seem to be an option to just reinstall part of the os. What to do?

 

Try running this from the command line:

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe" shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\System32\joy.cpl ",Game Controllers
(if C: is your system drive, and there is just a space after "RunDLL ").

Try replacing the joy.cpl file from the XP CD:

1.) Insert the XP CD and exit when the installation window comes up.
2.) Go to Start > Run, and type:
expand drive1:\i386\joy.cp_ drive2:\Windows\system32\joy.cpl
(where drive1: is your CD-ROM and drive2: is your system drive).

If the game port is part of your sound card, try updating the card's drivers.

if you have onboard soundcard, you need to set the midi on in the bios, that dit it for me with A7v8x.
