I'm having graphical problems trying to get some of my older games to run. I've tried compatibility mode, toning down my vid card settings, lowering my resolution and colors, everything I can think of. The game I'm using right now is Star Wars Racer (1999)...the game launches and runs but wherever there are 3D graphics they are terrible...In the actual game it is basically all white with a few shadows. I had similar but not as bad results with Star Wars Jedi Knight (yeah I like Star Wars).

Anyone found a surefire way to get older games to run without a hitch (short of dual-booting XP or anything like that).

What Video card are you using? If its an ATI card then have you updated to version 7.3 of ATI's drivers? I have an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512 MB AGP graphics card. When ATI first released their drivers my games including Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Jedi Knight 3 Jedi Academy, would play but with terrible quality. My solution for this issue was to install the latest version of ATI's drivers and set the settings to high quality. All of my games now work without a hitch and the graphics look amazing as well. :) If you are running an Nvidia grpahics card try the same approach to update to the latest drivers. :) I hope this helps with your problem. :D

I've got a Nvidia GeForce Go 7400. My driver is current as of 2/27/2007 and is the latest on HP's website (Nvidia doesn't host Vista downloads for all their cards yet, for some reason), but I'll check around for something more current.

nVidia uses an all-in-one driver. Whatever the latest on their website is, is the latest driver suite. The drivers are all there, in one package.

Nvidia have released new drivers for Vista, including 7 series cards.

If these don't help your issue then it's likely the game simply isn't compatible with Vista and/or your graphics engine.
After all the game is from 1999. Older game compatibility in Vista will be worse than XP.

As the Go7400 is generally used in Laptops, I'm assuming you have a laptop? If so try the latest drivers from the manufacturers site. They likely will be a version or 3 before the latest from Nvidia. But may be more compatible?
