When I open a new window, either after boot or from a link, sometimes they are full size, maximized and sometimes not. How can I make sure all new windows open full sized, maximized???

Thanks if you can help me.

Right click on the shortcut, properties, select maximized from the dropdown. Works for me....

Interesting. Didn't know that trick. Only one problem there. I can change the maximize in IE, but get an error when I do OE. It says unable to save changes to 'Launch Outlook Express.Ink. Access Denied . It does this on the task bar icon and the shortcut on my desktop. Why?

    Thanks.

    :)

For the OE shortcut you need to right click and choose properties. Then, click on the general tab and remove the read only attribute. Then click on apply. After doing this you should be able to change it so that it will open maximized. You can reset the read only attribute after you get things changed if you so desire.

Thanks! That did the trick. Why was it set at 'read' only? Do I have to change it back to 'read'? Does it really matter?

The read only bit is set when you install OE. Don't know why MS decided to do that. It really doesn't matter if you reset it or not. One thing to be aware of though. If you don't reset the read only attribute I believe that if you ever run the Internet Explorer repair tool it will be given the attribute again so don't be surprised in the future if you ever want to change things again and find that you have to remove the attribute again. Does this make any sense??? :D

About as much sense as anything M$ does! :D

Thanks for the update. Think I'll just leave it and hope it doesn't mess up anything on my puter.

HEY FRISCOBEAR!!! Did this little tip work for you? Let us know!

    Reset New Browser Window Size

Sometimes Internet Explorer 5 "decides" to remember the wrong size for a new window. Whatever you do, you can't seem to get it to remember a normal size.

    You can fix this:

1.Close all instances of Internet Explorer
    2.Start the Registry Editor
    3.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main
    4.Delete the value Window_Placement
    5.Exit the Registry Editor

    Or download:
    Autosizer: http://www.firase.com/

Hi you all -- Thanks for all of your replies. I could not get the property thing to work, and do not like to edit the registry. I can get in a lot of trouble with that. I did download the autosize program and it seems to work for me. Thanks again.

I had that problem when I upgraded to IE 6. You can try Maximizing using another IE shortcut. I forget what I had to do to get it to work for Outlook Express.

You can also try switching the icons in the Quick Launch Tray with one that might work with the Properties. Put a new icon on the desktop from IE Explorer. Drag that new icon into the Quick Launch Tray. Delete the old icons.

    Window sizing. . . (?)

After more than a year of frustration, I finally gave up on all that extra-curricular sizing stuff - including 'Autosizer'.

Whenever I get a window that isn't 'maximized' I just drag it into the upper left corner of the desktop and stretch the lower right corner to just above the clock. Eventually, ALL my windows were maximized.

This may be a bit drawn out and simplistic (time-wise) but I sleep better for it. :)
