Is a free ftp program available with xp, or will any program that works with windows work? I am using a fat32 file system and a dial up modem on Home version XP.

    Hello,

usually any standard FTP "clients' for internet explorer aren't that great. If you want a free one go with

    www.smartftp.com (most enjoy this)

or if you want to purchase one

    www.cuteftp.com

I do believe IE has a standard "ftp" procedure, where you would type in the address (ftp.nin-gaming.com example) and would be prompted for user name and password. I have found that programs specifically designed for FTP work much better. Smartftp should suit your needs!

Command Line FTP has been part of every M$ OS for quite a while. Standard stuff if you have ever used the Unix command line ftp. Works great too. Faster than any GUI version I've tried.

Just fire up a DOS window, type in ftp, and you are on your way.
