Guys, I setup a FTP site and the site can be accessed fine via the command line from other computers however, the site cannot be accessed via the browser. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Pointing a browser at ftp.yoursite.com usually results in an anonymous logon, which may not be allowed by your site.

    Code:
    ftp://username:password@domain.com
    Internet Explorer:
Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Enable Folder View for FTP sites.

Already enabled. I setup a port under Windows firewall, named it ftp and assigned port 21. Must another port be assigned? From the command line I enter; ftp - ip address. I can login with name and password, switch to binary and use the lcd command to switch to the directory in which I have my classwork. I'm seeking my MCSA, just passed the 070-270 exam. Instead of burning the images to DVD and giving them to my classmates, I thought it would be cool to setup a ftp site and have the guys download them. I'd rather the guys download via the browser as opposed to the command line, not to mention I want the knowledge.
    Thank you

OK, WHERE did you setup this ftp site? Locally running a ftp server or a remote ftp server?

I set the site up on my home pc, XP SP3. I just logged into the site from my class unit via the command line, no issues. The browser reads, page cannot be displayed. I'll keep plugging away.
PS I set my router ip to 192.168.1.120 and setup port forwarding on the router.

Do you mean you set the computer IP to 192.168.1.120? You can't change the router IP address, that address is assigned by the modem.

Give the comp a static address of 192.168.1.120. Note: most routers have a range of addresses used for dhcp and a range for static. For example, Linksys products use 192.168.1.2-99 for static addresses and 100-253 for dhcp addresses.

Give your comp a static address per the router manufacturer specs. Port forward 20 & 21 to the ip address of the comp w/ the ftp server. Connect to the ftp server via the browser using this url:
    ftp://your-isp-asigned-ip-address/

Also - many isps filter ports 20 & 21 to prevent subscribers from running ftp servers, thus you would have to config the ftp server to use alternate ports such as 3020 and 3021 for ftp and port forward those ports to the server computer.

My error, yes I assigned the computer an IP address of 192.168.1.120. I only used port forwarding on port 21. I'll setup port 20 tonight. Also, I'll setup alternate ports.
    I'll keep you posted.
    Thank you
