I plan to run a low volume FTP server. There will be only a few users. But each of them must have their own private space and therefore requires his own username and password to log into the server and get the files. Can IIS5.1 in XP Pro up to the task? The data transfered do not have to be encrypted, but the password has to be.

    'Only a few users'

The exact number can be critical. Workstation operating systems like XP, 2K-pro, etc. can only handle 10 simultaneous connections and if users map a drive, that is a connection and it is easily possible to have a single user with multiple connections. So the first question is, how few?

Right now there are 3 users, including myself. I read that one of the new features in Win2003 is that each user can have his own directory where only he can have access. This seems odd to me that this feature is only now available. What happens in the past versions of IIS? You mean to tell me that with previous versions of IIS's FTP, all the files that can be accessed via FTP can be seen by all users as long as they have an account?

So obviously, this new FTP server feature is not available in IIS 5.1 in XP Pro?
