FTP commands

I know if you press help it'll give you all the commands, but no description. Can someone post the commands and descriptions?

is there a command to download files from the ftp site im connected to?

the reason I ask is because at school, my site is blocked, for god knows what reason. but i can easily ftp to it. i'd like to download somethings from it onto the computer im using, how can i do that?

 

All I have ever needed (other than id and password) is the GET command. That assumes the admin. has made the files available for downloading.
