ftp access error

I get the following error message when i enter my ftp address on internet explorer address bar. I am connecting through a WLAN radio. Surprisingly, the systems from the other side of the radio running on windows xp are accessing the ftp site but the systems running on Operating systems later than XP have same challenge.
The error is:
"Windows cannot access this folder. make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.
Details
The server name or address could not be resolved. "
I have enable "folder view for ftp sites" and "use passive ftp" is not enabled in advance tab of internet options of the explorer tools.
How do I solve this problem.
