I've been using Family Tree Maker 2011 for several months, and it works fine (Win7/64). This morning (I hadn't used it in about 10 days) it would not open, no matter if I used a desktop icon, the start menu, or FTM.exe itself. The hourglass was there for a few seconds, but the splash screen/opening screen never appeared.

I did a system restore to back a few days before the latest M$ update, but that didn't work. I then did a uninstall/reinstall, to no avail....even the offer to launch FTM at the end of the install process didn't work. MBAM shows no malware.

I also noticed that when I try to open FTM, the Application and Process columns in Task Manager show FTM as active. There are also messages of open programs when I try to shut down/restart. In short, FTM has apparently opened but there is no screen display. The rest of my PC is perfectly normal. I've never seen anything like this.

In cases like this it is often worth running RevoUninstaller and clearing out all references to the software and starting over.

Note that only registry entries in bold should be deleted.

Pete....good suggestion, but it didn't work. I then did a SR back to a time when I knew FTM worked, so I'm OK now. Apparently the data bases got decoupled from the main program, so they couldn't talk to each other. Weird.
