    Hi:
I have a Dell Attitude (sorry, that should be Latitude) D610 running Windows XP Professional.
The computer has hung and I can't get it to shut down. I've pressed various buttons but, in the absence of a restart button, I'm at a loss to know how to shut it down apart from letting it run out of battery juice.
    Please could someone advise?
    Thanks.

Hmmm... I can answer my question myself!
Seemingly, if one holds down the power button for ages (i.e. more than just the usual prod), it eventually gets the message.
    Thanks for looking, anyway!

Yes - that solution is often not documented in the so called manual that accompanies some laptops today. My old HP had a reset button, my spanking new HP does not and the hold down the power button is not documented at all :(

Pete, it was kind of you to comment! Hope it's not as humid with you as it is, here, in sweaty London! Take care. :)

Yes - the humidity is dreadful up here too :)

I have no problem with temperature - been in Death Valley, California at 130 deg F, but humidity there less than 1% - lovely :)

    kewl2cu ...

I've owned several IBM T-series laptops (all running XP Pro), none of which has had a reset button, either. The few times that one of my laptops has frozen to the point where even the power button was ineffective, removing the battery for a few minutes seemed to reset everything, and the computer would boot normally after the battery was replaced.

Frozen Laptop - How to Shutdown

Hi - if your Laptop is like any other then you will be able to shut it down by pressing the Power (On/Off) Button in and holding it for about 5 or so seconds until the unit powers off. My Notebook is doing exactly the same thing at the moment until I can sort it out.

Regards.. Phil - Perth Western Australia
