    New Computer with Windows 8.

I am getting frequent arbitrary restarts for no apparent reason. I assume Windows is crashing.

    Can anyone tell me why?

Hi boutells. I would first make sure that you update all the drivers on the computer and see if that helps to fix the random restarts. How old is the computer? Did you just buy it? If its still brand new then I would return the computer and see if you can get a new one since there may be a hardware problem of some sort.

Did the computer just start randomly restarting itself or has it been going on since you first started using the machine?

Do the restarts happen when you do a resource heavy task such as playing a game or watching a video or does it happen even when the computer is idle?

I found a few drivers that needed updates so we will see how it goes for a few days.

It seems to have happened after I installed software, all of which is functional with W8. As it didn't take place when I initially turned the machine on, it is doubtful that it is a hardware issue.

To be candid, I tend to notice it after a Windows Update, so much so that the last time, I did an extra restart to see if that would help (it didn't).

The answer to your las point is no, I was browsing with some music in the background.

Have you tried booting the computer into Safe Mode and seeing if the restarts happen there? To rule out a software issue, I would follow Doc's advice and restore the computer to the default factory image and see if the restarts still occur.

Also what are your system temperatures?
