Hi, I am new to the forums. I have a 2007 or 2008 HP and my computer just recently started going either white or blue with colored little squiggly looking lines through it, and the only way to get out of it is by manually powering down my machine. I also cannot use any buttons while this is happening. No ctrl+alt+dlt combo or the windows key. I tried to do system recovery but when i tried to do that the computer didnt last long enough to finish recovery before it froze up again. Any suggestions? (Oh i also tried to update my drivers last night i thought that fixed the problem until i restarted my computer.)

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Where did you find the drivers?

    You should identify your model
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support/prod_info.html
I would update the chipset drivers, uninstall the graphics in Control Panel -> Programs and Features, then reinstall the graphics program HP recommend. (If the system is based on an nVidia chipset and graphics, watch the difference between nForce and Geforce. nForce is the chipset, GeForce is the graphics.)

    Matt
PS If you uninstall the graphics and have any trouble restarting, choose F8 at startup, the Startup Options Menu and select Enable Low Resolution mode. (See Advanced startup options in Help and Support)
