when i shut down my computer, on the please wait while your computer shuts down screen it freezes, sometimes after about 2 minutes it completes the shutdown. I have tried most of the help file but to no avail. no bootlog.txt file is ever created which should contain the reason for it not shutting down correctly. at the moment i have been waiting 20 minutes for it to shutdown. I have a laptop toshiba 220CS, i have recently got a pc card working and i think that it could be that

I should be in the hospital with my wife but I will toss in a quick note here.

    For starters.

Shutdown every thing possible in the Taskbar and the systray before shutting down Windows.

I would bet that it is a program that is not shutting down properly.

    I will check back later.

The two most common causes for failure to shut down completely are antivirus programs and drivers.

When Windows closes, it queries everything running, asking if it has closed down. If Windows gets no answer or doesn't like the answer it gets, it will wait forever.

To try to pinpoint the culprit, next time before you shut down, use Task Manager to "End task" on all your antivirus stuff. If the shutdown completes, you'll have found the culprit.

If that has no effect, look in Device Manager for any yellow warning icons. If there are any, try reinstalling the drivers for that device.

Did you update any drivers right before the problem started? If so, try reinstalling those drivers.

I can not help with fixing it, but good work at finding the culprit.
