My friend has an old computer running Windows 95 and we have cleaned off many programs because they won't be needed by the child who will be using the machine. Now that we have cleaned off the programs I was wondering if there was a free Registry Checker out there that we could clean off all entries that are probably not needed. We tried using Registry Mechanic and it found over 100 problems but only would let us clean 6 of them and if we wanted to clean them all we would have to buy Registry Mech. for $30.00.

We just don't want to spend the money for just getting rid of these errors. The computer will be used only for a few games for her children.

Any help you can give us would be most appreciated.

    Thank you.

A couple of tips about using one of this programs useful features. When it is installed and run, it opens at the Software tab. Check off the ones that you know that should not be there and select to remove them. Now, go to the toolbar at Options\Preferences\Marking As Old, select the Manual option. Now select the remaining software items, and click on Mark as Old on the bottom. This way, if something new is installed or appears, it will be flagged as New, until you mark it as old.
Now go back to the toolbar at Options\Registry Cleanup\OLE Cleaner, select Extra Powerful.
Then to the toolbar at Tools\Registry Cleanup\Do Them All, to start the scanning for errors.
