Windows XP Pro - Formatted NTFS.

I had 1.8 Gb free disk space.

I deleted files totalling 6.2 Gb

I ended up with 3.2 Gb of free space.

I certainly would appreciate if someone could enlighten me as to how this could possibly be, and also how I can recover the lost space. I have tried scan disk, defrag, etc., but these did not help.

    Many Thanks.

Are you including the swap file (page file), system recovery folders in your deletions?
Have you run the disk cleanup wizard?
Have you cleaned out the temp folders?
    How big is IE's cache?

    Many thanks for the reply.

I just deleted the files, and when I noticed that the space had not been recovered I ran every check possible. No Luck.

Empty the recycle Bin. ? If protected, unprotect and empty.

Maybe the swap file is now taking up part of the recovered space.
How much RAM on the system?
Are you sure you have deleted the files and folder, and not just the shortcuts? (I know this might seem a stupid question)

Once again, many thanks for the reply.

The deletion was too large for the Recycle Bin, so was deleted directly.

Regardless, the Recycle Bin is not protected, and is empty.
