    Hello all,

My Boss has a little problem with his Outlook.

When he received mails, after a few hours or so, they are gone from his Inbox completely and I can't find them anywhere.

I've checked to see if he has a Filter on but he doesn't.

    Any Ideas???

    Regards,

    Sam Ball.

Have you checked to see if Auto Archive is on?

You might also run the Inbox Repair Tool, although I would think other symptoms would also appear.

Have done, its not on, nor any Filters or Rules.

They start to disappear a few moments after they appear, both unread and read messages!!!

I've tried removing and then adding another profile but it still happens, It looks similar to the thing where you have the Delivery set to go to Personnel Folders and all the mails slowly move across to it, but he doesn't have PF's either.

He does have 2 mails boxes setup (It's done through the Internet) so I think it might be dragging his mails into the other mailbox BUT the guy who I have replaced hasn't left me any info for passwords or anything do I can't login to the Mail Server to have a look.

This is driving me and the Boss insane!!!

It probably is someting to do with the two mailboxes, OR it could be someone with permissions to his mailbox (perhaps your predecessor? ) that is moving and/or deleting messages. Since you're using Outlook as your mail client I'm going to assume you use Exchange as your mail server. If you could get into Exchange Administrator you could look to see who all has permissions to your boss' mailbox.

Hmmm...I've tried opening Exchange Administrator and then browsing to find the server but I get this error: "The list of Microsoft Exchange Server computers is not avaliable because no Microsoft Exchange Server computer could be located. "

    Which is nice...!

But I think that happens because the mail server is an internet server in the US somewhere, we don't have a stand alone Mail server, we only have one server in the company that runs everything.

I have to use Active Directory for Users to create and manage mailboxes.

One funny thing though, it used to come up with a message that something was trying to access his Mailbox, then Yes or No to allow it.

Would his Palm Pilot thing cause his mails to vanish?

I thought they might have been sucked to that, but then I check that and lost even more of them!!!!!!!!!

Oh, there's a Palm Pilot in the mix, eh? Well that changes things. If he has it hooked up to his work PC during the day, the Palm Pilot may be doing a Hot Sync automatically (or he could be doing it manually) and instead of synchronizing his e-mails he is moving them to his Palm. Have him look to see if the missing e-mails are on his Palm. If so, adjust the settings so it syncronizes instead.

It doesn't sound like you have an Exchange server or at least it is not setup in the Exchange Administrator application. I'm not sure how it is setup that you can manage mailboxes through Active Directory Users and Computers without being connected to an Exchange Server or some other mail server that can connect to your Active Directory.

I thought that the PP might be the reason the mails are playing up, but he said it hadn't been hooked up for a couple of weeks, I thought perhaps the PC was still moving his mails even though the PP wasn't hooked up, so I found the PP's stand and hooked it up, then lost about 40 of his mails that were already on the PP (See other Post!!!) and now I can't find them either.

I do think that it was something, if not the problem as his mails are no longer disappearing....well, I haven't checked this morning but I did a test yesterday and they remained in the Inbox, I'll post the results of that in a bit after I run a few more tests.

    Cya in a mo!

Just a thought .... is OL set to view "unread messages only ". In Inbox, View, Current View .... If unread messages only checked, then each message disappears from the Inbox view as it's read.

To see all messages .. View, Current View, Messages

It's set to view all messages :(

BUT...I have created a whole new profile and his mails no longer seem to be going, his iPAC isn't connected and he isn't in yet so I can't test it.

    Fingers crossed!!!

But the only bugger is now I'll have to go through all the back up mails and find the ones he's lost :(

I'll let you guys know what happens.

    Thanks,

    SB.

    Right...

    The Good News:

He mails are no longer disappearing.

    The Bad News:

I thought all his mails would be copied to the Back-Up Section, but there not, only the ones he's sent out.

    Sooooo...

It looks like I'm still knee deep in the Poop unless I can find them.

But I need a place to look first :( and I can't see where to start.

Well, I am very glad to hear that because I had been racking my brain trying to figure this out.

My thoughts were leaning towards his iPaq causing the problem but I haven't fooled with handheld devices synching with mail clients enough to be knowledgeable in that area.

Great job on finding the problem with his mailbox setup!

    P.S. Totally unrelated but...Whoo-hoo! This marks post # 100! Do I get a Bozo button, Arie? :p

    Thanks guys!

I think that the person before me had shared 1 mailbox for 2 users and I presume that Daren's was the Primary so that the Bosses mails were being dragged into it.

I sort of knew that it was Darens setup that was causing the agro because when Daren wasn't in, the Bosses mails would stay in his mailbox, but when Daren logged in, they started disappearing!

    But I think I've made another boo-boo though! :(

I'll check it out and I think I may be making another Post sometime soon!

    Again, thanks for the help.

    Regards,

    Sam Ball.
