I set up a Windows 98 machine a couple of years ago with four video cards and four monitors.

Is Windows 2000 capable of this?

I would prefer the "yes" or "no" part of this answer to come from someone who has done this.

I haven't done this, but I do know that Win2k can support up to 9 video cards and monitors, same as Win98 / ME.
I also think that you may have a unique situation that no one could say that have your type of configuration. Most people setup just two video cards / monitors.

Yup.... I'm in the 2/2 camp right now.... However, I'm supposed to get a new dual-head type v-card one of these days, and since I still have another spare monitor, I might try running 3/3 before I run 2/3.....

Yes, you can display a different program or web site on each monitor.

Just insert the cards. Just be sure you use only AGP and PCI. ISA-type will not work for this.

I have done this on Windows 98, not yet on 2000

I sure would like to see an answer from someone who has actually done two or more monitors on a Windows 2000 machine. I am about to attempt this on-site today and it sure would be nice to know for sure before I get there.

I had 2 monitors on my Win2K... 2 ATI Rage Pro (8MB) cards.

I now have 3 monitors (on XP, but 2000 should be the same).

The two Panasonics run off a 32MB Matrox Millennium G550 (DualHead AGP), the 3rd monitor runs off a remailing ATI Rage Pro card....

Well, I tried it. I followed the Windows 2000 instructions to the letter from Microsoft's Knowledge Base. I just could not get them to work in Windows 2000. The second monitor just would not come off the blank screen. Finally, I formatted and loaded Windows 98. I then followed the same instructions except this time, they were the instructions for Windows 98.

I have two monitors working right now and from my experience so far, I see no reason to believe it will not work just a beautifully for two more.

It would have been nice to have seen it work under 2000, but....

Not all cards will work as secondary. I thought there used to be a MSKB article about it, but can't find anything now....

    Additional information:

I have four Jaton Video 107 cards with Trident 9880 chipsets. I inserted two of them (as stated above) and they worked fine. When I got around to inserting the third, I didn't have the latest drivers handy for the Jaton so I used the Trident 9880 drivers. Big Mistake!

    Long story short:
The third card was in the #3 PCI slot and no amount of attempting to update that card's drivers to the ones distributed by Jaton would help. The monitor just remained blank. I finally moved the card down one PCI slot, loaded the Jaton driver and it worked fine. The board has five PCI slots so I moved the NIC to slot 3 and placed the fourth display card in slot five. Now all monitors work fine.

    What I learned:
When setting up multiple monitors and you load the wrong driver for one or more cards, it may be difficult to impossible to ever get that card to work in that slot again. You see, the incorrect driver I loaded was close enough to work (maybe for a single-monitor setup), but not close enough to work in a multi-monitor setup.
