Is it possible to erase name given when formatting a new DVD-RW?

You should be able to give it any name you want, at least all of the programs I've used in the past had that ability. If you're using the built in burning software in Windows, you can change it where it asks if you want to use it "like a USB flash drive" or "with a CD/DVD player ". Look at the top of the window. There's a box there with the label it's going to give the CD or DVD disc. Just remove that name and type in anything you want.

If you're using some other program, it should be similar. There should be a place there somewhere where you can set the label to whatever you want.

What program are you using to format and burn the DVD?

I use the Windows 7 burn software that is included with its installation.
The caption that you mention, does allow me to insert a name for the DVD-RW but only once, using a non-formatted DVD-RW.
On erasing contents of DVD-RW, the old name remains and I am unable to change the original name.
What steps should I carry out to rename DVD-RW?

Well, I haven't really used packet writing like this in Windows 7 so I did some experimenting. I only had CDRW disks to test with but I don't know why it shouldn't be the same with DVD's. This is what works for me. Click start and then click Computer. Right click on the DVD drive and in the menu choose format. In the window that opens you'll see a box toward the bottom that says Volume label just above it. Just remove whats in the box and type in the name you want. Works for me.

Hello Zander, my sincere thanks for your suggestion.
I carried out your instructions, and certainly my request for removing the label name on DVD-RW worked a treat.
    Again, I thank you, Zander.

I was hoping that would work for you. Glad to hear it did. A person has to get lucky once in a while you know. :D
